Toyota Reaches 3 Million Hybrids Sold

Toyota is by far and away the biggest hybrid maker on the world market, the unstoppable and genre defining Prius has been a best seller since it’s release in 1997 and in times of soaring oil prices its sale streak doesn’t look set to slow down. Toyota To Repair 650,000 Priuses

Toyota has announced they’ll be recalling repairing 650,000 Priuses sold between 2004 and 2007 due to a faulty coolant pump. The worlds largest carmaker has been plagued with recalls over the past 12 months and is resisting calling this latest snafu a recall, instead referring to it as a “customer satisfaction” program. New Prius MPV Coming In January

Toyota is teasing an image of a new Prius due in January at the Detroit Autoshow, this won’t replace the current Prius but will expand it into a multi-car brand like Toyota’s luxury offshoot Lexus. Google’s Robotic Hybrid Car Fleet – Yes, You Read That Right

Google has a small team of engineers working on the development of fully robotic, autonomous vehicles and although this might sound like pie-in-the-sky future tech, but they have already clocked 140,000 miles in the cars on California’s public roads. The program is led by Sebastian Thrun, the director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and co-inventor of Google’s “Street View” mapping service.

Prius Sales Surpass 2 Million Worldwide

Toyota announced today that Prius sales surpassed the 2,000,000 mark by the end of September 2010 with the total sales figure being close to 2,012,000.
