Daimler AG and BYD Announce Joint Venture

In what appears to be a month for high profile joint ventures, the German automaker Daimler AG (ETR:DAI)and the Chinese automaker BYD Co. (HKG:1211) have announced that they will begin a partnership aimed directly at the burgeoning mainland Chinese market for electric cars. BYD’s other high profile shareholder is US billionaire Warren Buffet’s investment company Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A), with friends like these it appears BYD is set to grow into China’s 21st century runaway success story. China is currently the largest car market in the world and some estimates, like one today from consulting company IHS Global Insight for example, are putting global battery powered electric vehicle sales at 3% of total sales by the year 2020 Lanjut →

Toyota Buys $50 Million Stake In Tesla Motors

In an interesting and somewhat unexpected move Tesla and Toyota today jointly announced that Toyota will be taking a $50 million stake in the electric vehicle manufacturer which will equate to about 2% of the company. Daimler (NYSE:DAI) bought into Tesla last year and acquired a larger 10% stake in the company, it would now seem that Tesla is working hand in hand with two of the biggest automakers and has, by and large, established itself as the number one electric vehicle and electric vehicle technology company in the world.

BYD Electric Cars Coming To The US

BYD are a Chinese car company with serious global aspirations and after recently signing on with Daimler AG (NYSE:DAI) to co-develop electric vehicles, no one is doubting their potential. Warren Buffet came onboard in late 2008, buying up a 10% stake in BYD worth $230 million USD, largely due to their enviable chinese market share and to a lesser extent due to their development of electric vehicles that may be heading to Europe and the USA sooner rather than later. BYD has been the toast of the international business community so far in 2010 having been ranked as the 8th most innovative company in the world by Lanjut →

The Mercedes F800

With 2 Mercedes cars covered in a week it seems that one of the worlds oldest car companies is taking the future seriously with plug-in hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles all coming out of Germany in time for the 2010 Geneva Motorshow. With obvious design cues from the current generation Mercedes Benz CLS-Class and an unsure-of-the-future offering of both a plug-in gas/electric and a hydrogen fuel-cell version on offer the brand new F800 is already raising eyebrows 2 weeks ahead of its Geneva Motorshow unveiling. The Mercedes Benz SLS eDrive

A gullwing Mercedes always draws a crowd, the original 300SL was introduced in 1954 and essentially blew the socks of every motoring journalist and red blooded male around the world. It’s performance specs were unparalleled and the flowing lines and gullwing doors made it seem like a car from the future. Mercedes recently announced that it will be producing a pure electric drive versi0n of the spiritual successor to the 300SL Lanjut →
