Kicking off with a price almost $12,000 more than the Nissan Leaf, CODA may have been a little ambitious in pricing their new electric sedan, according to market analysts. CODA Automotive have announced that they will begin shipping their all-electric sedan in the 3rd quarter of 2011 to the US state of Hawaii. The horribly boring looking but innovative electric 4-door sedan will begin limited deliveries on the US mainland in the 4th quarter of 2010 making it, in their words “one of the first affordably priced, all-electric vehicles on the road in the U.S.”. The primary competition will be the Nissan Leaf although the fact that the Leaf has already sold out its first year of production may play into the hands of CODA, some people may not want to wait another 12 months. Coda announced today that they have raised an additional $58 million in financing, with the funds coming from Singaporean firm EDB Investments and Leslie Wexner (Chairman and CEO of Limited Brands Inc (LTD.N)). Coda have also announced plans to set up a Singapore office to work on the development of right hand drive electric vehicles for Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
