iEV: An Electric Car Simulator for iPhone
One of the largest things slowing down electric vehicle adoption is “range anxiety“, it’s essentially a fixation many people have that an electric car doesn’t have the range they need for their day to day life. Most electric cars have a 100+ mile range and the average American drives less than 27 miles per day, however in spite of this, range anxiety continues.
This is where a new app by DotTribes comes into play;
iEV will show you whether an electric vehicle is able to fulfill your mobility needs and the best type of electric vehicle for your unique driving needs. This app could help save you a fortune and ensure you make the right choice with a major buying decision.
If you’re thinking about buying an electric car, you can select the measurements (size and weight) of the model of vehicle you are interested in into iEV, the app will then monitor your driving and give you an idea if the electric car in question has the required range by giving you feedback as to the required battery size (in kWh) to suit your needs.
It would be great, in future versions of the app, if it was possible to just set the app to “Nissan Leaf” or Chevy Volt” and then have the app tell you if the selected vehicle is suitable for your needs. Perhaps having specifications and prices of different electric cars listed inside the app as well, however they tell me they update the app frequently so hopefully we’ll see features like this in a future version.
If you’d like to try iEV out you can grab it by clicking the App Store link below, it costs $5.99 USD.
