The ZEV 7000

Is this the worlds fastest electric scooter? Is scooter an appropriate term for something of this size that can clock close to 120kph? I’m not sure but the manufacturer ZEV is claiming that this is the quickest electric scooter currently in production, probably in a ploy to call out Vectrix and Brammo, although we aren’t sure how much street cred you’ll get by bragging about riding the fastest production electric scooter in the world.
As a daily commuter though the ZEV7000 does hold significant promise. A full charge will cost you about 10 cents and with a range of 62-83 miles and a recharge time of 2 hours over 90% of typical commutes would be easily within range.
There are some negatives here though, ZEV is a very new company and the parts of the ZEV7000 are all made in China (the final product is assembled in the US), this could lead to quality issues in the long term. To be fair ZEV do offer a 2 year warranty which does allay those fears to a certain extent. I also tend to judge companies based on the design and quality of their website and ZEV’s site needs a redesign ASAP as one look at it made me go hunting around for my trusty bottle of eye-bleach.
The ZEV7000 costs $7,237USD after US tax credits which puts it up against Brammo, Zero, KTM and Piaggio. It’ll be interesting to see how ZEV do in this fledgeling market, a lot of estimates have indicated that the market for an electric two wheeled commuter vehicle with (essentially) $0 in day to day operating costs is currently very under supplied.
