The Hybrid Toyota RAV4

Toyota recently announced a hybrid version of its famous RAV4 SUV, coming in 2012 and also made it clear via a quote from Koei Saga, Toyota’s managing officer of hybrid system development, that “Toyota needs to accelerate the 2020 goal to hybridize all the Toyota models.” Having all of the models that Toyota builds running on gas/electric hybrid platforms as quickly as 2020 is quite some goal.

The Hybrid RAV4 will be offered in the 5-door configuration only and is due to start rolling into North American and European showrooms around 2012. We don’t yet have detailed specifications for the RAV4 but we’ll update as further information becomes available.

Nice writing style. I look forward to reading more in the future.

That’s all well and good but it seems Toyota is going backwards. Perhaps someone should be asking Toyota why they pulled the plug on their 100% pure battery RAV4 EV a number of years ago? Much like GM and the Volt. The EV1 should have been reintroduced instead.
